When we talk about the cycle of seasons, we talk about spring, summer, fall(autumn), and winter in order.
봄에는 씨를 뿌립니다. 여름에는 그 씨들이 자랍니다. 가을에는 열매를 맺습니다. 겨울에는 농사를 쉬지요.
In spring, we sow seeds. In summer, the seeds grow. It bears fruit in autumn. People take a break from farming in winter.
제게 8월은 언제나 여름이었습니다. 30도를 웃도는 기온, 높은 습도, 그리고 부채를 들고 거리를 다니는 사람들이 저에게 떠오르는 여름의 이미지입니다.
August has always been summer for me. An image of summer for me is of temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius, high humidity, and people carrying fans on the streets.
그런데 크리스마스는 12월 25일이기 때문에 한겨울이라고 할 수 있습니다. 사람들은 두꺼운 코트를 입고 사랑하는 이에게 선물을 줍니다.
By the way, Christmas is December 25th, so it's the middle of winter. People wear thick coats and give gifts to their loved ones.
‘8월의 크리스마스’는 1990년대에 나온 한국 영화입니다. 시한부 삶을 사는 사진관을 운영하는 사진사(한석규)와 주차단속을 하는 앳된 여자(심은하)와의 짧은 사랑 이야기입니다.
'Christmas in August' is a Korean movie that came out in the 1990s. It's a short love story between a photographer (Han Seok-Gyu), who runs a photo studio and terminally ill, and a young woman (Shim Eun-Ha), who is a parking enforcement officer.
한석규는 자신의 죽음이 가까이 있음을 알고 담담히 주변 사람들과의 이별을 준비합니다.

그는 자신보다 더 오래 살 아버지에게 비디오 플레이어를 켜고 끄는 방법을 종이에 차근차근 써서 가르쳐줍니다. 자신이 죽은 후에도 아버지가 스스로 비디오를 켜고 끌 수 있도록 말이죠.
He teaches his father, who will live longer than him, how to turn the video player on and off by writing it on a piece of paper so that his father can do himself after his son dies.
오래된 죽마고우(竹馬故友:아주 오래된 친구)와 엄청나게 술을 마셔대기도 합니다. 겉으로는 아무렇지 않아 보이지만, 처음이자 마지막인 자신의 죽음에 밤에 몰래 이불 속에서 울기도 합니다. 그러다가 그는 주차단속을 하는 이제 막 고등학교를 졸업한 여자 심은하를 우연히 만나게 됩니다.
He also drinks heavily with an old friend. He looks fine on the outside, but he cries secretly under the covers at night at when he think about his impending death. Then, he meets Shim Eun-Ha, a woman who just graduated from high school, as she is checking parking meters.
그는 아무렇지도 않게 마치 여동생을 대하듯 그녀를 대합니다. 그러나 어느새 심은하를 사랑하게 되는 그는 자신이 아프다는 말을 하지 못합니다…
He treats her casually as if he were treating his sister but soon he falls in love with Shim Eun-Ha. Sadly he can't bear to tell her about his illness...
더 쓰다가는 영화 전체의 줄거리를 다 말할 것 같네요. 이 영화의 제목처럼, 8월에 이 이야기는 시작됩니다. 마치 크리스마스 선물처럼 심은하가 한석규에게 다가가죠. 그리고 가을이 되고, 겨울이 됩니다.
